Research project in social media for chronic disease management: Survey Open to 30 June
Prof. Fernando Martin-Sanchez, at the Health and Biomedical Informatics Centre (HABIC) @ The University of Melbourne, invites people to participate in an online survey.
The survey will be open until June 30th and further information can be found here:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/socialmedia_chronicpain
Fernando writes: At the Health and Biomedical Informatics Centre, University of Melbourne, we have been conducting innovative research aimed at bringing increased rigor to the way in which evidence of improved health outcomes can be achieved using social media in various chronic conditions. Especially given the rise of health-related Internet use by patients. Our literature review on social media use in chronic disease management has been recently published in the the Journal of Biomedical Informatics.
As part of his PhD research project, Mark Merolli, one of our PhD candidates has developed an online survey to better understand how social media is used to manage chronic pain as a result of various chronic diseases. In particular, individual perceptions regarding how different social media influence health outcomes. He explains the survey in a short video so please watch for further information. Click here: http://animoto.com/play/EY5Vh6FUHKmeZrqLAIUNQQ
We invite people to complete this survey, and share with members, colleagues, patients, and others via your channels: website, news, blog, facebook, twitter, other social media, etc (however you feel appropriate) and contact him to let him know you have done so. As a research team, we strongly believe this research fills a pivotal gap in knowledge and hope culminates in improved evidence-based decision making about social media use for the self-management of a variety of chronic conditions. Should you have any questions, Mark is contactable on email mmerolli[at]student.unimelb.edu.au or phone: +61408 513 984 http://www.healthinformatics.unimelb.edu.au
