NI2014 – 12th International Congress on Nursing Informatics – Submissions Close 30 September

All abstracts must be submitted and be received on or before September 15, 2013 through the on-line Abstract Submission System. For authors who need language support, submit by the pre-submission deadline, August 31, 2013. (this does NOT guarantee acceptance; it is a mechanism to provide support and feedback) All abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Program Committee of the NI2014, and reviewing results will be notified by emailing the decision of acceptance/ rejection to the presenting authors only by December 15, 2013.

The theme of the conference is “eSmart + ” where “e” stands for eHealth, “S” implies simplicity, “m” represents mobility and meaningful use, “a” denotes advanced leadership, “r” indicates revolution, “t” means translational technologies, and “+” symbolizes People Leading uCare Safely. The acronym is also used to convey the idea of adopting smart technology to help health providers deliver higher quality care.

Second Capital International Nursing Conference, Beijing, 25-27 October, 2013: Call for Submissions

The 2nd Capital International Nursing Conference, will be held in Beijing, China from 25th to 27th October 2013. This three-day convention will be hosted jointly by the School of Nursing, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China, School of Nursing, University of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, USA, and China Medical Informatics Association (CMIA).

Professor Ying Wu, PhD, RN, ACNP, Dean of the School of Nursing CMU and Chair, Organizing Committee of CINC welcomes nursing professionals in educational and various practical fields from China and around the world to this international forum. The aim of the congress is to provide a single, high-profile, internationally renowned forum for research in the theory and practice of nursing informatics. Over the years, the congress has been instrumental in the advancement of nursing informatics which has made a great stride toward the provision of an International discussion forum as evidenced by the number of successful meetings held so far. NI2009 in Finland and NI2012 in Canada successfully attracted over 600 participants. NI2014 in Taipei will also present the most up-to-date scientific evidence through our comprehensive scientific program which will cover a wide range of topics to be presented in the invited speakers’ lectures, educational sessions, as well as the abstract-based program.

Major Events for 2014: NI2014 and MIE2014

Initial announcements have been made about two important events on the global health, nursing and biomedical informatics calendar for 2014. Further information will be given soon on important timelines, so please keep an eye on the relevant websites; IMIA will also be helping to promote both events.

ni2014NI2014 – the 12th International Congress of Nursing Informatics will take place in Taipei (at the Taipei International Convention Center, near to the famous Taipei 101) on 21-25 June, 2014. Initial information is available on the conference website – see http://www.ni2014.org We encourage all nursing and nursing informatics colleagues (and others) to participate.

MIE2014 – the 25th European Medical Informatics Conference – will be held in Istanbul on 31 August – 03 September, 2014. Information will be available on the conference website at http://www.mie2014.org and on the EFMI web portal at http://www.efmi.org We look forward to seeing many colleagues from Europe and further afield at this event.

Nursing Informatics Australia Conference 2013: CFP Closes 22 March

nia-logoNursing Informatics Australia (NIA), a special interest group of HISA, is pleased to invite participation in NIA 2013, Australia’s Nursing Informatics Conference, to be held on 15 July 2013 at the Adelaide Convention Centre (in conjunction with HISA’s HIC 2013 conference). The primary theme of NIA 2013 (Australia’s only dedicated one day national nursing informatics conference) is New Age Workforce: Blending Professional and Digital Behaviours.

Topic themes include Governance, Legal & Ethical, Professionalism, Mobile Apps, Social Media, Work/Life Balance & technology, Patient Centred Care/Self Management, and Making it easy for the patient. The best paper will be awarded the prestigious Moya Conrick Prize.

SINI 2013, July 17-19, Baltimore – Abstract Deadline March 01

The 23rd Annual Summer Institute in Nursing Informatics (SINI 2013) will be held on July 17-19, 2013. The theme will be “Beyond Stage 7 and Meaningful Use: What’s Next?”

UPDATE: Call for Papers: The Electronic Health Record and Nursing

The Call for Papers is open for a special issue of the open access journal “Nursing Research and Practice” – the theme will be “The Electronic Health Record and Nursing: Trends, Issues and Challenges”. Lead Guest Editor Andre Kushniruk (School of Health Information Science, University of Victoria, Victoria, BC, Canada) and Guest Editors Hyeoun-Ae Park (College of Nursing Seoul National University, Seoul, Republic of Korea), Carola Hullin Lucay Cossio (IMIA LAC: Regional Federation of Health Informatics for Latin America and the Caribbean) and Elizabeth Borycki (School of Health Information Science and School of Nursing, University of Victoria) invite colleagues to contribute original research articles as well as review articles. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

  • The relation of nursing to electronic health records
  • Technologies to support nursing in the electronic health record (e.g., clinical nursing guidelines)
  • Educational tools for improving understanding and adoption of electronic records and related information technologies in nursing
  • Nursing standards/terminologies as they relate to the electronic record
  • Change management and strategies for implementing electronic records in nursing environments
  • Emerging trends, issues, and challenges in implementing electronic health records for use by nurses

There are many reported difficulties and issues worldwide in implementing electronic health records (EHRs) so that they maximize their beneficial potential and minimize inadvertent negative efforts for both health professionals and patients. This special issue will examine trends, issues, and challenges emerging from implementation of electronic health records and related information technologies in nursing settings.
