The 19th HISI Annual Conference & Scientific Symposium will be held on 19-20 November, 2014 at the Dublin Castle Conference Centre, Dublin, Ireland. The event is organised by the Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland (www.hisi.ie), and IMIA Member Society. The theme will be “eHealth … what it means for patients, clinicians, industry, government and academia”, and the event will feature keynote speakers, academic paper and poster sessions, and workshops.

The Annual HISI Conference and Scientific Symposium is designed for everyone involved in the design, management and delivery of healthcare, both clinically and from an IT perspective. A satellite workshop on the topic of Research Databases will be held following the annual meeting of the German Association for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS) on Thursday, 11 September 2014. The workshop is organised by the GMDS “EHR data reuse for clinical research” working group in cooperation with the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) Health Information Systems working group and the “Infrastructure for Translational Research” working group of the Department of Medical Informatics at the Göttingen University Medical Center. The workshop will also include the 2nd European i2b2 Academic User Group Meeting in conjunction with a workshop of the i2b2 enhancing IDRT project sponsored by the TMF.
All interested researchers are invited to to participate in this international workshop, directly following the annual German Medical Informatics Conference held at the Göttingen University from September 8-10, 2014. Please send a registration mail by 31 August to Prof. Dr. H.U. Prokosch – ulli.prokosch[at]uk-erlangen.de – if you want to attend this free workshop.
The program will include presentations on projects using i2b2 or tranSMART and SHRINE as foundations for research projects (such as EHR4CR, Cloud4Health, IDRT), as well as presentations on projects employing other research database software, to support collaborative hospital-wide and even trans-institutional research projects.

NI2014, the 12th International Congress on Nursing Informatics (www.ni2014.org) held in Taipei, Taiwan is now over. So, the international nursing informatics community begins to turn its mind to the next NI Congress, NI2016, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The 13th International Congress on Nursing Informatics, held under the auspices of IMIA-NI, and hosted by the Swiss Nursing Association, among other orgnisations, will be held in Geneva, Switzerland on 25-29 June, 2016. The website is already live at http://www.ni2016.org and will be further developed over the next two years. There will be very early bird registration rates (fordelegates, accompanying persons, etc) from 01 July 2014 to 30 June 2015, followed by increasing rates following as the event nears – see http://ni2016.org/registration/
The Call for Papers will open on 30 March, 2015, with a submission deadline of 30 September, 2015. See http://ni2016.org/submission/ The theme of the conference will be eHealth for all. „Big Data und Forschungsinfrastruktur – Perspektiven für die Medizin“
Das Schlagwort „Big Data“ wird Forschung und Förderung auf viele Jahre bestimmen. In Kombination mit den Anforderungen an Register, Klinische Studien und Grundlagenforschung einerseits und individualisierter Medizin andererseits stehen alle Sparten der Fachgesellschaft vor neuen Herausforderungen. Diese sollen im Rahmen der 59. Jahrestagung der GMDS e.V. in Göttingen umfassend diskutiert werden. Dabei können alle aktuellen Fragen der Fächer in diesem Zusammenhang analysiert und erörtert werden.
Für diesen breiten Diskurs wird auch der Austausch mit der Industrie und den Verbänden gesucht. Mit der TMF e.V. wird eine Habilitandenweiterbildung zum Thema aus Sicht der Verbundforschung angeboten.
Die 4. GMDS-Jahrestagung in Göttingen – nach 1956, 1977 und 1986 – wird darüber hinaus im sozialen Umfeld viele Gelegenheiten zum fachlichen Austausch bieten.
