Global Telehealth 2015 Conference – Toronto, Canada; 29-30 May, 2015

GT2015-01The 4th International Conference on Global Telehealth (GT2015) will be held on May 29-30, 2015 at the Delta Toronto Hotel, 75 Lower Simcoe Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Full information is on the event website at www.GT2015.org

The theme for GT2015 is “Serving the Underserved: Integrating technology and information for better healthcare”. COACH: Canada’s Health Informatics Association is delighted to be hosting Global Telehealth 2015, an international scientific conference covering the full breadth of  telehealth, mobile health and virtual health. It consists of 50+ scientific and applied paper presentations that have been submitted from more than 25 countries. Keynote speakers include Dr. Najeeb Al-Shorbaji, Director, Knowledge, Ethics & Research, World Health Organization; Dr. Alain B. Labrique, Founding director, Johns Hopkins University Global mHealth Initiative; and Dr. Ivar Mendez, Fred H. Wigmore Professor of Surgery & Chairman, Department of Surgery, University of Saskatchewan , and Unified Head of Surgery of the Province of Saskatchewan.

e-Health 2015 in Toronto, Canada: 31 May – 03 June, 2015

COACH (http://www.coachorg.com), IMIA’s Member Society in Canada, together with Canada Health Infoway and CIHI-ICIS, will be hosting the forthcoming e-Health 2015 Conference, to be held from 31 May to 03 June, 2015 at the at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto ON, Canada. e-Health 2015 is Canada’s only national e-health conference and tradeshow, and provides education and networking opportunities for the telehealth and informatics communities.

COACH is pleased to announce the Call for Papers for GT2015 (www.GT2015.org), the 4th such conference, open to all academic, healthcare, health informatics and telehealth professionals from Canada and around the world. The organisers encourage your research, study and leading papers to be submitted for acceptance and presentation at this international conference, to be held on May 29-30, 2015 in Toronto.

On behalf of Conference Co-Chairs Jennifer Zelmer and Kendall Ho, we would welcome you to Canada and to this special conference with the theme Serving the Underserved: Integrating Technology and Information for Better Healthcare. Bring your study and research findings, present and network with your Canadian and international colleagues, get published and Medline indexed in the IOS Press series Studies in Health Technology and Informatics and be a part of the innovation, evolution and development of telehealth, mobile health and virtual health, all for the betterment of our patient populations in every community and region.

We welcome your papers, your attendance and interest – and plan to stay for the eHealth 2015 conference (www.ehealthconference.com) starting the day after GT2015 (31 May – 03 June) , and also in Toronto.

Papers are invited under three guided themes: cultural and socio-economic factors; latest, cutting-edge technology; and extending access. The Applied Program track for GT2015 is also now open. The applied program track will feature a number of concurrent sessions on:

1. Telehealth in the Home, including technologies and services such as teleconsultation, telecollaboration, telehomecare and remote patient monitoring that enable and empower patients to work with healthcare professionals to manage their disease from their homes or communities.
2. eMental Health, and how this is being provided in new and different ways with digital technologies to augment service quantity and quality, enhance access, address diversity while reducing disparity, and improve outcomes.
3. National Programs, featuring profiles of small, medium and large countries and agencies and their approaches to governance and policy given different geographic, demographic and related challenges and issues.
4. Planning, Implementation & Management, including how care delivery services are being conceived, designed and delivered, as well as approaches to funding, measurement, monitoring and benefits evaluation.

The deadline for submissions to the Applied Program is January 16, 2015.  Early submissions are appreciated as there are limited presentation opportunities.  Submissions will be reviewed and selections made by the CTF Education Committee, which is responsible for the organization of the applied program committee component of GT2015. Those submitters whose presentations have been selected being notified by February 16th.

Athabasca University (Canada) Seeking Translational Nursing Research Chair in eHealth Literacy

Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions (AIHS) is sponsoring a Translational Research Chair position at Athabasca University that will bridge interests in health information technology, electronic communication and knowledge translation to the public and help create a systematic approach to the study of eHealth literacy.

The Nursing Research Chair in eHealth Literacy will advance understanding of all facets of eHealth literacy with particular focus on the public’s actions related to procuring, evaluating and using eHealth information and electronically generated self-health data, and the health care professionals’ role in communicating, educating and empowering the use of eHealth information and self-health data. As a researcher in eHealth literacy, the Chair will build an integrated research team that will make an impact on the health of Canadians and on global health knowledge. Working in collaboration with other institutional partners in related fields, there is potential for developing synergies related to areas such as health promotion, disease prevention and analytics and personalized medicine. There is also potential for synergy with Athabasca University’s Canada Research Chair in Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Management.

The appointment will be made at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level, depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.

2014 Canadian Health Informatics Award winners

The recipients of the 2014 Canadian Health Informatics Awards and Steven Huesing Scholarship were announced at the 9th Annual Canadian Health Informatics Awards (CHIA) Gala, held during e-Health 2014 in Vancouver BC, Canada on June 3, 2014. Among the many recipients were:

Clinician Leadership (honouring a clinician who has shown outstanding leadership in Canada in advancing the use of health Information Communication Technology (ICT) and informatics or telehealth in clinical practice resulting in improved provider and patient experiences and outcomes):
Dr. Lynn Nagle – Assistant Professor, University of Toronto, & Founding President, Canadian Nursing Informatics Association.

Emerging Leader in Health Informatics (recognising individuals who are in the first five years of their HI or telehealth career and have clearly demonstrated leadership and achieved early success in HI or telehealth):

Steven Huesing Scholarship (reflecting the spirit, dedication and innovation that the late Steven Huesing, COACH Founding President, made to the field of health informatics):

COACH: Canada’s Health Informatics Association and ITAC Health co-host the CHIA Gala and Awards program. An impartial Adjudication Committee, comprised of leaders in the HI profession, evaluates all nominations and scholarship applications and chooses the award recipient(s).

ITCH2015: February 26 – March 01, Victoria BC, Canada. Call for Workshop Proposals

The ITCH2015 conference (International Conference on Information Technology & Communications in Health), organised by the University of Victoria School of Health Information Science (http://www.uvic.ca/hsd/itch/index.php) will be held on February 26 – March 01, 2015 at the Inn at Laurel Point, Victoria, BC, Canada.

e-Health 2014 (Vancouver, Canada) – June 01-04, 2014

COACH, IMIA’s Member Society in Canada , and the other hosts of the event, have announced new developments for the forthcoming e-Health 2014 Conference, which will be taking place from June 1-4, 2014 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, Vancouver, BC, Canada. e-Health 2014 is Canada’s only national e-health conference and tradeshow, and provides education and networking opportunities for the telehealth and informatics communities.

The first Hackathon at an e-Health conference, presented in partnership with Hacking Health (http://www.hackinghealth.ca), will bring hackers together with healthcare professionals who have a deep understanding of problems that need to be solved and strong connections to target users. Through collaboration, the aim is to rapidly build a prototype for games, apps, websites, web applications, services, etc. The winners will be announced at the Canadian Health Informatics Awards (CHIA) Gala.
