HIC 2015 Call for Submissions – Deadline 16 March

HISA (http://www.hisa.org.au) is pleased to invite you to respond to the Call for Submissions for HIC 2015, Australia’s premier digital health and health informatics conference – see https://hisa.site-ym.com/page/hic2015papers for the HIC 2015 Call for Papers, and https://hisa.site-ym.com/page/hic2015nia for the NIA (Nursing Informatics Australia) Call for Papers.

HISA 2015 will be held in Brisbane, Australia on 03-05 August, 2015 – see http://www.hisa.org.au/page/hic2015 for full information.

You have an opportunity to put forward your contribution to science, research and the business of healthcare and play a role in the collaborative nature of HIC as we work together to drive reform. In an innovative move, this year for the first time the presentations will be allocated based on theme rather than in separate streams for academic/scientific and industry/clinical.

Themes for 2015 – authors are encouraged to submit under the following themes and health informatics specialty areas:

• System and workforce change management
• Integrated care
• Participatory medicine
• Value of dataDigital health/advancement in technology
• Aged Care informatics
• Indigenous informatics
• Innovations/latest research

Submissions close on Monday 16 March 2015.

Industry/Clinical case study abstracts (650 word abstract)

All NIA submissions will be given automatic entry to NIA’s Moya Conrick Prize. The Moya Conrick Prize is presented in recognition of the valuable work by the late Dr Moya Conrick via the best submitted paper and presentation at NIA. The prize is based specifically on nursing informatics, including the quality, originality, contributions, subject matter and timeliness of the submission. The Moya Conrick Prize is shared amongst all authors of the submission and shall be announced by a member of the NIA executive.

 

HIC 2014 Conference – Melbourne, Australia; 11-14 August

HISA’s annual Health Informatics Conference (HIC) will be held in Victoria, Australia at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on 11 – 14 August 2014. Full details are at http://www.hisa.org.au/page/hic2014

With the primary theme of Investing in e-health: People, knowledge and technology for a healthy future, the conference will focus on investing in e-health, improving the climate for investment and innovation in e-health, strategic opportunities and “where to for Australia?” Keynote speakers will include Dave de Bronkart (ePatientDave) and Dr Danny Sands, Regina Holliday and Dr Bertalan (Berci) Mesko. Danny Sands recently gave a well-received closing keynote at the NI2014 conference in Taipei.

Joan Edgecumbe Continuing Professional Development Scholarship – Closing Date 08 July

HISA (http://www.hisa.org.au) is pleased to announce the Joan Edgecumbe Scholarship, which is designed to encourage undergraduate, graduate certificate, diploma, masters and PhD students who demonstrate commitment and promise in the field of health informatics to attend HISA’s annual Health Informatics Conference 2014. This conference scholarship is in recognition of the continued service and passion to the health informatics sector by Mrs. Joan Edgecumbe – “Joan is one of HISA’s founding members and over HISA’s 20 year history occupied the role of Executive Officer, committee member and Board member, until her retirement in 2011.”

Applications are open to current undergraduate, graduate certificate, diploma, masters and PhD students who demonstrate commitment and promise in the field of health informatics. Big Data 2014 – Melbourne, Australia; 03-04 April

Big Data 2014 (http://www.hisa.org.au/page/bigdata2014) will be held on 03-04 April, 2014 at Pullman Melbourne Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia. The event, organised by HISA (Health Informatics Society of Australia – www.hisa.org.au) follows on from the success of the inaugural Big Data Conference held in 2013. The conference explores big data in biomedicine and healthcare. Big Data 2014 will introduce clinicians, healthcare executives and managers both clinical and non-clinical, data and information professionals, health and bio informaticians, health policy makers, and academics to the exploding world of BIG DATA. The theme for Big Data 2014 is Big insights: Harnessing the power of health data. The conference will focus on the big questions: big insights, health outcomes, data visualisation, workforce, data linkage and analytics, genomics and privacy.

Launch of Certified Health Informatician Australasia (CHIA) program

CHIA (Certified Health Informatician Australasia) has been developed by the Health Informatics Society of Australia, the Health Information Management Association of Australia, and the Australasian College of Health Informatics to address the lack of formal recognition of health informatics knowledge and skills in Australia. The program has been developed with reference to global initiatives and competency standards by COACH, Canada’s health informatics association, the American Medical Informatics Association and the International Medical Informatics Association. CHIA builds on previous work done on health informatics competencies by the (now defunct) Australian Health Informatics Education Council.

Successful completion of CHIA requires the applicant to pass an online exam. Exam preparation is self-directed and you will be given all the information you need to prepare. Candidates must have an undergraduate degree plus experience working in some area of health, for example health informatics, health administration/management, clinical information systems, or e-health. International Symposium on Clinical and Translational Research Informatics – Melbourne, Australia; 27-28 March 2014

Our colleague Prof. Fernando Martin-Sanchez, Chair of Health Informatics and Director, Health and Biomedical Informatics Centre (HABIC), The University of Melbourne is pleased to announce that on 27-28 March 2014 a joint symposium between BioGrid Australia and the University of Melbourne’s Health and Biomedical Informatics Centre will be held at the Davis Auditorium, The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. The University of Melbourne has been active in Health Informatics over the past ten years. These activities have recently crystallised in the creation of HaBIC, the Health and Biomedical Informatics Centre. HaBIC is a collaborative effort between the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, the Melbourne School of Engineering and the Institute for a Broadband-Enabled Society. The Centre will be officially launched on 28th March 2014. In celebration of the launch we will be bringing together international and local experts in the field of Health and Biomedical Informatics who will be contributing to the symposium.

HISA Apps Challenge 2013: HISA’s Health Apps Challenge invites budding app developers to come up with an idea for an app to assist and improve health and health outcomes. Participants are required to design* an innovative e-health related mobile application that facilitates and improves the way individuals experience or receive healthcare or access and use information that can improve health outcomes.

This year participants may enter an app that addresses any healthcare topic, but we encourage you to consider focusing on one of the following four areas, in keeping with the themes of HIC 2013:

• Mental health
• Oncology
• Indigenous health
• Chronic disease management

* Applicants to HISA’s Health Apps Challenge 2013 are not required to actually develop their app prior to entry in the competition. Submissions involve a video presentation of the app concept.

Big Data in Health and Biomedicine Conference: Melbourne, Australia – 18-19 April

Big Data 2013 is following on from the success of HISA’s Data Governance conferences of 2011 and 2012. Big Data 2013 is Australia’s first Big Data in biomedicine and healthcare conference. The event will be held at Rydges, Melbourne  on 18-19 April. For details, see http://www.hisa.org.au/page/bigdata2013 Registration is open and the early bird rate closes on 12 March.

The conference will focus on issues around biomedical informatics, personalised medicine, health 2.0/participatory health, data governance, data analytics and healthier outcomes. The main themes of the conference are:

2. Technology and algorithms: NLP, text analytics, data mining, etc
3. Applications: personalised medicine, clinical research, education
4. Ethical legal issues, quality, risk, allocation, governance
