2nd Medical Informatics Conference in DR Congo / 2ième Conférence d’informatique médicale en RD Congo,

Our colleague Eustache Muteba Ayumba, IMIA Corresponding Member in the DR Congo, is pleased to announce CINFOMED, the 2nd Medical Informatics Conference in DR Congo.

CINFOMED the 2014 conference will be held in the meeting room of the Petit Trianon restaurant at the French Circle of Kinshasa January 15, 2014, under the main theme “Ensuring Health for all through New Technologies”. CINFOMED 2014 offers an update on the state of the art Medical Informatics in DR Congo and to outline future trends. The conference will focus on the proper use of new information technologies and communication to the services of patients and caregivers.

HELINA2013 Conference: 07-08 October 2013 in Eldoret, Kenya

helinaThe HELINA 2013 Conference – the 8th Health Informatics in Africa Conference – will be held on 7-8 October 2013 at the Noble Conference Centre, Eldoret, Kenya. The conference theme will be “Evidence based Informatics for eHealth in Africa”.

HELINA2013 will be hosted by the Kenyan Health Informatics Association (KeHIA – http://www.kehia.org), one of IMIA’s newest Member Societies. KeHIA is the national platform for health informatics activities in Kenya with membership drawn from corporate bodies, professionals and researchers involved in Health, Medical Informatics and Computer Science in Kenya from within and outside the country.

On related activities around the HELINA2013 conference – OpenMRS is supporting this year’s HELINA Conference. Details on this year’s OpenMRS Implementers Meeting (8-11 October) are available at: http://events.openmrs.org/  
  The Africa Build consortium is organizing a Symposium on capacity building on the second day of the conference (8 October, 2013) Registration for this symposium can be made at http://africabuild.eu/symposium-kenya 
  A pre-conference workshop focused on standardization and Open Source systems interoperability and health indicator extraction of information systems used in Africa is planned on Saturday 5 October, 2013 from 09:00 to 14:00 H. Semantic and technical interoperability will be discussed with regard to systems used in Africa: DHIS, GNU Health, MEDIBOARD, Openclinic, and OpenMRS. Call to Review Kigali Health Institute Masters in Health Informatics Curriculum

The Kigali Health Institute (KHI), Rwanda, runs the Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSc HI) degree programme under the auspices of the Regional e-Health Centre of Excellence which is based in KHI. The MSc HI programme started in 2011 as an evening programme whereby students attend training sessions after work.

KHI (http://www.khi.ac.rw) has produced a Call for applications to review the MSc in Health Informatics curriculum. The full call is attached here or directly from the KHI website at http://www.khi.ac.rw/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=152&Itemid=62

Journal of Health Informatics in Developing Countries (JHIDC); Vol 7 No 2

The latest issue (volume 7:2, 2013) of the Journal of Health Informatics in Developing Countries [JHIDC] is available at http://www.jhidc.org/index.php/jhidc/issue/current

Focus and Scope: Knowledge on health and medical informatics in developing countries is scarce. This health informatics journal has therefore been launched to focus on and promote research, experience and discussions related to health informatics in developing countries. Authors from developing countries are particularly encouraged to contribute in this area.

The current issue contains articles on notifiable diseases in Sri Lanka and data collection and reporting tools in Ethiopia. Articles from the previous issue (volume 7:1, 2013) are available at http://www.jhidc.org/index.php/jhidc/issue/view/20

Health Informatics South Africa (HISA) 2013 Conference: Programme Available

This is a South African Health Informatics Association (SAHIA) event hosted by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). The theme is Empowering patients and healthcare professionals with information and technologies.

Second Call – Health Informatics South Africa (HISA) 2013 Conference: Submissions Close 22 April

HISA 2013 Scientific Programme Committee Chair, Dr Nicky Mostert-Phipps (nicky.mostert[at]nmmu.ac.za), announces that the South African Computer Journal, the official journal of the South African Institute of Computer Scientists and Information Technologists and accredited by the South African Department of Higher Education and Training, will invite submission of the best papers from the conference, based on recommendations from the scientific programme committee. These papers will be reviewed to the journal’s standards, and must contain at least 30% additional material. Reviewing for the journal will be expedited to ensure publication of papers that do not require substantial changes in a special edition of SACJ in July 2013. SACJ is an open access journal with no cost for readers, enhancing your chances of being read and cited. To cover publication costs, the journal levies an open access charge, which can be waived for authors unable to fund such charges (usually met by university research offices, based on expected income from subsidized publications).

Journal of Health Informatics in Developing Countries [JHIDC]

The latest issue (volume 7:1, 2013) of the Journal of Health Informatics in Developing Countries [JHIDC] is available at http://www.jhidc.org/index.php/jhidc/issue/current

Focus and Scope: JHIDC publishes submissions on health informatics that relate to developing countries. The submissions have to be original articles. The objective of this journal is to share and promote academic knowledge in the field. One of its aims is also to encourage writers from developing countries to contribute their writings.
