UN University Seeks Director for New Institute on Computing and Society in Macao

Our colleague Prof. Tze Yun Leong,
School of Computing, National University of Singapore, and member of the UNU-CS Board, has sent information about the following vacancy, which may be of interest to some within the IMIA community; one of the requirements is “a strong background of research in an area of particular relevance to developing societies such as health, education…”. Review of applications will start on 15 July, 2014 – all communications should be to UNU, not to IMIA. Please feel free to forward this information to colleagues you think may be interested.

The United Nations University (UNU) is searching for an entrepreneurial director for the relaunch of its computing and information technology institute in Macao, SAR, China. The new institute will be called UNU Computing and Society. This director will set the vision and build an ambitious, cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research programme to address key challenges faced by developing societies through high-impact innovations in computing and information technologies. We are looking for a dynamic individual with a strong academic and management background who can recruit and lead a world-class team of researchers, and build partnerships with universities, think tanks and the private sector. A focused research programme, to be developed in collaboration with the Board of the Institute, should contribute, through impact and policy advice, to the goals and priorities of the emerging UN development agenda.

Details of the post and application processes are at http://cs.unu.edu – see also attached flyer. Visit http://unu.edu/about/hr for the full job requirements and application procedures.
