Updates From IMIA Journals – ACI and Methods

ACI Editor Prof. Chris Lehmann and publishers Schattauer are pleased to announce that the all papers from the first 13 issues of ACI (up to and including Vol 3, Issue 3, totaling almost 120 articles) are now free and openly available for download. They are available via the Journal Archive at

The latest issue of Methods of Information in Medicine (Volume 52, Issue 6) contains several important freely available items for download. There is an Editorial titled “The World Health Assembly Resolutions on eHealth: eHealth in Support of Universal Health Coverage” authored by Najeeb Al-Shorbaji, World Health Organization, Geneva, Switzerland (download). The editorial reports that the World Health Assembly (WHA) of the World Health Organization (WHO) and three of the six WHO Regional Committees have adopted a number of resolutions on eHealth: the use of information and communication technology for health. It argues these resolutions have given legitimacy to eHealth as an area of work for WHO and its member states, and that their implementation will contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Universal Health Coverage. eHealth has been perceived as reducing the cost of healthcare, improving quality and equitable access to health services, and several examples are cited.

The other three free downloads are linked: a discussion paper titled “Biomedical Informatics: We are what we publish” (Elkin, Brown and Wright – download), which is introduced by an editorial (Beuscart: “Know thyself”download), and followed by a commentary paper (Geissbuhler et al, with contributions from colleagues in Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, USA, Egypt, Argentina and Australia – download) which collates invited comments. Methods invites colleagues to continue the discussion in subsequent issues through letters to the editor.
