Happy 100th Birthday, Dr Morris F Collen

IMIA colleagues around the world wish Dr Morris F Collen a happy 100th birthday today, the 12 November, 2013 (or 11/12/13 in the US date format).

In an editorial in Methods, Don Lindberg and Marion Ball write about his life, contributions, and influence: Morris F. Collen at 100: A Tribute to “The Father of Medical Informatics”, available as a free download in Methods of Information in Medicine. Dr Collen is an IMIA Honorary Fellow (in addition to his many other recognitions and awards).

Harvard School of Public Health offers Leadership Strategies for Information Technology in Health Care, a two week, executive education program designed to provide participants with the skills and strategies necessary to improve quality, safety, and efficiency through health IT. Improve quality, safety, and efficiency through health information technology and gain the leadership skills you need to drive results. You will learn to design an effective health IT strategy and gain the tools to implement this strategy effectively. Topics explored during this program include IT strategy and governance, electronic health records, patient safety and quality of care, and clinical informatics. Leadership for Health IT is designed for mid- to senior-level health care leaders in clinical or administrative positions who have responsibilities for health information technology. Executives from EHR vendors, health plans, and consulting firms will also benefit.
