IMIA News – 2012 Usage Summary from

As in the past two years, has provided a useful summary of usage stats for the IMIA News site for the previous 12 months.

In 2012, the IMIA News site:

  • provided 184 new posts (more than 3 per week, or 15 per month, and a 6% increase on 2011); also had more than 100 images and graphics uploaded within posts;
  • now has an archive of 630 news items;
  • was viewed more than 41,000 times (an increase of more than 17% on 2011). (Today we pass 65,000 all-time views)

The busiest single day for traffic (not only for 2012, but since IMIA News was created) was November 27th; the most popular post that day was UPDATE: Medinfo2013 Submission Deadlines; Reviewers Invited.

Among the posts and pages with the most views in 2012 were:

1. Call for Papers: ITCH 2013 – February 21 – 23, 2013, Victoria, BC, Canada (written April 2012)
2. Medical Informatics Journals: 2010 Impact Factors (written July 2011)
3. Medical informatics journals impact factors; JMIR now no. 1 (written June 2009)
4. APAMI-2012 – 7th Asia Pacific Association for Medical Informatics Conference – Call for Papers Extended to 10 July (written April 2012)
5. Medinfo2013 – First Call for Papers, Posters (written May 2012)

This demonstrates the longevity and continuing interest in, and relevance of, some of the items we have produced.

The top referring sites in 2012 were (once again) the IMIA website, and – although also ranked highly. Among search strings that resulted in people visiting the site were “applied clinical informatics, methods of information in medicine” (also highly ranked in 2011), “tiger initiative”, and (interestingly, for an event that does not exist) “mie 2013”.

Most visitors came from the USA (by far the largest number), with Canada and the UK close behind. In Europe, most visitors were from the UK, Germany and Greece; in Asia from India, Japan and Australia; in Africa from South Africa and Nigeria; and in Latin America from Brazil and Argentina.
