3rd Healthcare IT Exchange: 02-04 December 2012; Manchester, UK

The 3rd Healthcare IT Exchange will take place on the 2nd – 4th December, 2012 in Manchester (United Kingdom), and will once again bring together CIOs, IM&T Directors, government representatives and leading solution providers to discuss how public and private organisations can drive greater efficiencies and improve quality of care in times of restrained budgets and change for the healthcare sector. Full information is available on the event website at http://www.healthcareitexchange.co.uk/Event.aspx?id=737222 and the updates can be found on Twitter @HealthcareITEx

The 3rd Healthcare IT Exchange is an exclusive invitation only networking forum for senior IT executives in the NHS and private healthcare organisations. An increasing drive to move care closer to home, the aging population and a rapidly emerging technology savvy generation are just some of the challenges faced by IM&T Directors and their organisations. These developments call for greater alignment between hospitals, GPs and community services, implementation of new technologies, effective system integration and information sharing. The Exchange will address what strategies should be implemented to meet these demands and increase the quality of care whilst reducing costs?

Among industry experts who will be sharing their insights are:

  • Mark Blakeman, Director of Informatics, University Hospital South Manchester NHS Trust
  • Tracy Cannell, Managing Director, East Coast Community Healthcare CIC
  • Dr Hashim Reza, Clinical Director of Informatics, Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust
  • Will Smart, Director of IM&T, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust
  • Jane Hartley, Assistant Director Information Management, Heatherwood & Wexham Park Hospitals’ NHS Foundation Trust
  • Tracy Cannell, Managing Director, East Coast Community Healthcare CIC

IMIA is pleased to be supporting the event as a media partner, and IMIA CEO Dr Peter Murray will again be chairing the event.

IMIA Supporting HIFA2015

Healthcare Information For All by 2015IMIA is pleased to have become one of the latest Supporting Organisations for HIFA2015 (http://www.hifa2015.org), an international campaign with the goal “Healthcare Information for All by 2015”. The rationale for the formation of HIFA2015, ie the urgent need to improve the availability and use of healthcare information in developing countries, is congruent with IMIA’s vision “to enable the transformation of healthcare in accord with the world-wide vision of improving the health of the world population.” Among the other almost 150 Supporting Organisations are BioMed Central, British Medical Association, Cochrane Collaboration, International Council of Nurses, Joanna Briggs Institute, Public Library of Science, and WHO African Regional Office Library.

We will be exploring possibilities for IMIA to support HIFA2015’s work. HIFA2015 publications that may be of interest are listed at http://www.hifa2015.org/publications/

Any IMIA members who are already actively involved with HIFA2015 are asked to contact the IMIA Office (email: imia[at]imia-services.org) if they are willing to contribute to joint activity.
HIFA2015 (Healthcare Information For All by 2015) is a global campaign and knowledge network administered by the Global Healthcare Information Network, a non-profit organisation working to improve the quality of health care for low-income populations in developing countries. HIFA2015 brings together more than 5000 health workers, librarians, publishers, researchers and policymakers from 167 countries worldwide, all committed to a common goal: By 2015, every person worldwide will have access to an informed health care provider. One-third of members are based in Africa, one-third in Europe, and one-third in the rest of the world. Together we are working for a future where people are no longer dying for lack of basic healthcare knowledge. Membership is open to all and is free of charge: www.hifa2015.org
