IMIA Medicine 2.0 Awards and Medicine 2.0 Congresses
Several members of the IMIA Social Media Working Group (SMWG) participated in the recent Medicine 2.0’11 Congress, and associated Stanford Summit, held at Stanford University, California on 16-18 September, 2011 (http://www.medicine20congress.com). IMIA SMWG members formed the secondary review committee for many of the submissions, in particular, the research-focused submissions.
The IMIA Medicine 2.0 Award (for the best research-based paper, from a younger scientist) was given to Jackie Bender, from the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation, Toronto, Canada for her paper “What Is the Role of Online Support for the Supporters? a Multi-Method Study Examining the Use of Online Communities among Breast Cancer Peer Support Providers”. In addition, IMIA SMWG members helped to judge a Stanford University/IMIA SMWG poster award, which went to Osman Ahmed from University of Otago, New Zealand for his poster ” iCon: Utilizing Facebook to Deliver Best-Practice Concussion Management” (see the IMIA SMWG site for links to the winning submissions). The awards were announced by Dr Chris Paton, IMIA SMWG chair, at the closing session of Medicine 2.0’11.
The next Medicine 2.0 event will be Medicine 2.0’12, (the 5th World Congress on Social Media, Mobile Apps, and Internet/Web 2.0 in Medicine, Health & Biomedical Research) to be held in Boston, USA at The Joseph B. Martin Conference Center at Harvard Medical School on 15-16 September, 2012. Abstract/Speaker Proposal Submission Deadline: March 7th, 2012
