Methods 50th Symposium: Heidelberg, Germany

An invitational symposium is taking place on June 9-11, 2011 in Heidelberg, Germany to celebrate the 50 years of publication of ‘Methods of Information in Medicine’ (http://www.schattauer.de/index.php?id=103&L=1). Just under 50 people are attending, and the event has been organised by the publisher of ‘Methods’, the Peter L. Reichertz Institute, and others.

With the theme “Biomedical Informatics: Confluence of Multiple Disciplines”, a series of short invited papers and discussions will explore a range of related topics. The first day began with an introduction by Reinhold Haux, current Methods editor and was followed by Alexa McCray talking on “The birth and evolution of a discipline – as reflected in its longest running journal’.

Those wishing to follow the event can find short comments via the @IMIATweets twitter stream, with the hashtag #methods50

It is expected that papers from the symposium will be published in future issues of ‘Methods’.
