Ambient Assisted Living Open Association Workshop; Brussels, 07 June
Thomas Karopka, Chair of the EFMI LIFOSS WG and Vice chair of the IMIA OS WG (Open Source Working Group) reports that the Ambient Assisted Living Open Association (AALOA – http://www.aaloa.org) are organizing a workshop together with the eInclusion unit (European Commission) on the topic of “Support for companies developing Ambient Assisted Living solutions to achieve the market breakthrough”. The workshop will take place at the 7th of June in Brussels and will discuss different issues for an AAL market break through. The workshop will discuss possible new funding schemas to support the porting of existing vertical AAL hardware and software solutions towards one horizontal platform. Information on the workshop is at http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/einclusion/events/aal_market/index_en.htm
Thomas is a member of the AALOA governing board and would like to develop links between it and EFMI and IMIA. The aim of AALOA is to develop and support an open source middleware for AAL; Thomas sees this is an important topic for the EFMI LIFOSS WG as well as IMIA OS WG.
The workshop will contribute to the philosophy and the idea of the AALOA manifesto (http://www.aaloa.org/manifesto/manifesto_0_9_0).
