The increase in gaming internationally has focused the interest of medical professionals on ways of harnessing the power of gaming from the improvement of health. In this article, the authors perform an extensive search of the literature on health gaming with an eye toward game design principles and educational theories. Their findings may help to improve game designs for health promotion purposes.
