Fidelity to the study protocol is an essential feature of high quality clinical research. In this study, the authors report on a project using a health information system process to create follow-up documentation that was included in the workflow of study personnel. Their findings suggest that this method is feasible in clinical research settings.

The use of EHRs to facilitate care coordination is recognized as being increasingly important as the population ages and develops more chronic diseases. In this study, the authors examined the diffusion of EHR in an elder care program, the impact of the EHR on clinician satisfaction, and the impact of the EHR on patient outcomes. The results of the study suggest that EHR diffusion and use did not go as expected.
