From the International Medical Informatics Association

At its 16th Congress, held in Milan, Italy in November 2010, IFHRO, the International Federation of Health Records Organizations, changed its name from IFHRO to IFHIMA – The International Federation of Health Information Management Associations. The Constitution of the organization was updated in Milan by the country representatives, and the name change was a part of that updating. In her first presidential message, released just before Christmas, 2010, the new President of IFHIMA, Margaret Skurka from Indiana University Northwest, College of Health and Human Services, Indiana, USA noted that there “is consistency now worldwide in using the terminology Health Information Management (HIM) to name our profession. The member countries present and the Board of Directors thought it was time to align the name of the organization with the international trend. So, IFHRO was retired after many successful years, and the name IFHIMA was born.”

The next IFHIMA Congress meeting will be held in Montreal, Canada, from May 11-15, 2013.
