HIC 2010 Conference Starts 24 August – Melbourne, Australia

HIC 2010 ( – the 18th year of the Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA – conference – with associated events and exhibition that act as an important catalyst and forum for the development of e-health in Australia starts on 24 August, 2010.

This year’s theme is “Informing the Business of Healthcare”; the organising committee, chaired by David Rowlands, have put together a program bringing together thought leadership, practical strategies and the technologies of the present and the future – all of which aim to help manage the ‘business of healthcare’ and lead the transformation of healthcare through health informatics. Among the notable international and national speakers are Prof. Trisha Greenhalgh, Professor of Primary Health Care and Director, Healthcare Innovation and Policy Unit Centre for Health Sciences, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry; Dr. Paul C. Tang, Chief Medical Information Officer at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF), and Consulting Associate Professor of Medicine (Biomedical Informatics) at Stanford University; Dr. Donald T. Mon, Vice President, Practice Leadership, American Health Information Management Association; Prof. Michael Georgeff, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Precedence Health Care, and Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University; and Fran Thorn, Secretary, Department of Health.

HIC 2010 runs from 24-26th August, and with associated events on 23rd and 27th, there is a full program of events over 5 days. The venue is the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Melbourne, Australia.
