ANIA-CARING merger confirmed
The merger between two leading US-based nursing informatics organisations has been confirmed following an overwhelmingly positive vote in a membership ballot. The American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA) and CARING announced their merger into a new entity, ANIA-CARING (www.ania-caring.org), as of January 1, 2010. The new body, with over 3000 members in 50 US states and 34 countries, is one of the largest associations of its kind in the country.
CARING, formerly known as Capital Area Roundtable on Informatics in Nursing, was developed and organised by nurses in the Washington DC area in 1982 to provide a forum for the advancement of automated healthcare information systems. ANIA was established in 1992 and provided the first opportunity for informatics nurses in Southern California to meet and network. ANIA grew to be a national organization providing networking, education and information resources.
ANIA-CARING will be a leading nursing informatics organisation, dedicated to advancing the field of nursing informatics through communications, education, research and professional activities. There will be a celebration of this merger at the upcoming annual conference to be held in Boston, MA on April 22-24, 2010 titled, “Re-Evolution in Nursing Informatics.”
