eHealth Week 2013: New Technologies, New Ideas, New Opportunities

eHealth Week 2013 (May 13 – 15) will be held at the Convention Centre Dublin, and bring together global decision makers from European public and private healthcare, to join High Level European Ministers and EU Commissioners and over 2,500 international delegates and 100 exhibitors. eHealth Week is co-organised by the European Commission, the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and HIMSS Europe.

Working with the European Commission, the Irish Department of Health, the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the ECH Alliance, the theme of this year’s event will focus on delivering innovation and well-being. eHealth Week will show the importance of cooperation, communication and Connected Health best-practice.

The Irish Department of Health will host several Presidency events attended by EU Commissioners and officials, Ministers of Health and government officials from Member States, Accession, Candidate and EFTA countries. Department of Health tracks, open to all eHealth Week attendees, will feature discussion on the high economic and societal value of eHealth, reforming health systems, business modelling in the “ecosystem”, empowering patients, legal issues and education and skills to support eHealth deployment and implementation. HIMSS13 is Almost Here – New Orleans, March 03-07

The 2013 HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition will be held on March 3-7, 2013, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, New Orleans (www.himssconference.org). More than 36,000 healthcare industry professionals are expected to attend to discuss health information technology issues and review innovative solutions designed to transform healthcare.

IMIA is pleased to support this annual event, as it has done for many years, and encourages its members and colleagues to participate. Conference education sessions include pre-conference symposia on ICD-10, clinical and business intelligence, health information exchanges, clinical engineering, innovation, meaningful use, nursing informatics, physicians’ IT, and RFID and RTLS in healthcare. More than 300 peer-reviewed sessions, including workshops and roundtables, round out education offerings at HIMSS13.

President Bill Clinton leads a keynote roster that also includes James Carville, political consultant, and Karl Rove, media contributor and former deputy chief of staff and senior advisor to President George W. Bush. The Meaningful Use Experience, new to HIMSS13, is designed to help providers find EHR solutions that are certified for acute or ambulatory facilities. The exhibition also features knowledge sharing that focuses on usability and proven implementations.

Nominations Open for 2013 HIMSS Europe Award for eHealth Leadership

HIMSS Europe (https://www.himss.eu/) has launched the nomination process for the 2013 HIMSS Europe Award for eHealth Leadership. This award recognises an individual who, in the judgment of the HIMSS Europe Governing Council, has demonstrated significant leadership in promoting the use of information technology in healthcare in Europe (as defined in accordance with the current definition of European by the World Health Organisation).

To be eligible for the HIMSS Europe Award for eHealth Leadership, candidates must:

  • be a resident of Europe
  • be professionally active in Europe.

In addition, the specific criteria are:

  • the HIMSS Europe Award for eHealth Leadership is given in recognition of European level leadership in the field of eHealth.
  • the award may be made for leadership in eHealth deployment, innovation, policy development, advocacy or training at a European level towards the transformation of healthcare.
  • it may be made to an exceptional contribution, for a sustained engagement, or for a lifetime of exceptional leadership, which has had an impact across Europe.

Nominations can be submitted by a third party, whether a member of HIMSS or not, and must be submitted at http://surveys.himss.org/checkbox/Survey.aspx?s=e2825f74f4cb45a09eadbfc6f764a769 HIMSS Europe is accepting nominations until Friday 8th February 2013.

The HIMSS Europe Award for eHealth Leadership will be presented at the 2013 eHealth week / World of Health IT Conference and Exhibition in Dublin, Ireland on Wednesday 15 May, 2013 at 15.45 – 16.00.

HIMSS13 will be held in New Orleans on 03-07 March, 2013 – the Call for Proposals and Reviewers is now open, and both close in May 2012.

Speakers:

HIMSS12 – First Full Day (21 February)

Today is the first full day of the HIMSS12 conference in Las Vegas, USA (www.himssconference.org). After the preliminaries, pre-conference symposia, exhibition set-up and other activities, HIMSS12 officially started this morning with a keynote presentation from Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter.

Dr Chris Paton (@DrChrisPaton on Twitter) has written a blog post about the opening keynote on the Health Informatics Forum and about the IBM Watson session. Chris will be writing other blog posts and tweeting from HIMSS12. In addition, Karl Oyri from Norway (@karloy) will also be tweeting.

The HIMSS12 exhibition opens this afternoon, and all friends and colleagues are invited to stop by the IMIA booth.

IMIA at HIMSS12 in Las Vegas

IMIA will be at HIMSS12, the Annual Conference and Exhibition of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, (HIMSS – http://www.himss.org) on February 20-24, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

IMIA is pleased to continue to be a Conference Collaborator, supporting the event (see http://www.himssconference.org/general/collaborators.aspx) and will have a booth in the Collaborator booth area. We will be located in Hall G at Booth 6 (Lower Level, near shuttle bus and taxi drop-off area, and close to the AMIA and AHIMA booths).

We hope that all IMIA colleagues and friends will stop by to see us. We will have information about the NI2012 Nursing Informatics Congress (http://www.ni2012.org) and Medinfo2013 (http://www.medinfo2013.dk) – and will be happy to talk about any general IMIA issues. NI2012 information will also be at the AMIA booth (Booth 8).

We will be providing some reports here and via other channels about the event – watch out for posts next week about these. Dr Chris Paton (HINZ, IMIA Social Media WG) will also be providing blog posts and tweets, and we are looking to collaborate on these. If any other IMIA members or friends will be reporting from HIMSS12 via blogs, Twitter or other channels, please let us know via email (imia[at]imia-services.org) so that we can help to promote and share your reporting.
