Joan Edgecumbe Scholarship; HISA Apps Challenge

This scholarship is in recognition of the continued service and passion to the health informatics sector by Mrs. Joan Edgecumbe. Joan is one of HISA’s founding members and over HISA’s 20 year history has occupied the role of Executive Officer, committee member and Board member, until her retirement in 2011. The Joan Edgecumbe Scholarship is designed to encourage undergraduate, graduate certificate, diploma, masters and PhD students who demonstrate commitment and promise in the field of health informatics to attend the annual Health Informatics Conference 2013.

HISA Apps Challenge 2013: HISA’s Health Apps Challenge invites budding app developers to come up with an idea for an app to assist and improve health and health outcomes. Participants are required to design* an innovative e-health related mobile application that facilitates and improves the way individuals experience or receive healthcare or access and use information that can improve health outcomes.

This year participants may enter an app that addresses any healthcare topic, but we encourage you to consider focusing on one of the following four areas, in keeping with the themes of HIC 2013:

• Mental health
• Oncology
• Indigenous health
• Chronic disease management

* Applicants to HISA’s Health Apps Challenge 2013 are not required to actually develop their app prior to entry in the competition. Submissions involve a video presentation of the app concept.

Big Data in Health and Biomedicine Conference: Melbourne, Australia – 18-19 April

Big Data 2013 is following on from the success of HISA’s Data Governance conferences of 2011 and 2012. Big Data 2013 is Australia’s first Big Data in biomedicine and healthcare conference. The event will be held at Rydges, Melbourne  on 18-19 April. For details, see http://www.hisa.org.au/page/bigdata2013 Registration is open and the early bird rate closes on 12 March.

The conference will focus on issues around biomedical informatics, personalised medicine, health 2.0/participatory health, data governance, data analytics and healthier outcomes. The main themes of the conference are:

2. Technology and algorithms: NLP, text analytics, data mining, etc
3. Applications: personalised medicine, clinical research, education
4. Ethical legal issues, quality, risk, allocation, governance

Nursing Informatics Australia Conference 2013: CFP Closes 22 March

Nursing Informatics Australia (NIA), a special interest group of HISA, is pleased to invite participation in NIA 2013, Australia’s Nursing Informatics Conference, to be held on 15 July 2013 at the Adelaide Convention Centre (in conjunction with HISA’s HIC 2013 conference). The primary theme of NIA 2013 (Australia’s only dedicated one day national nursing informatics conference) is New Age Workforce: Blending Professional and Digital Behaviours.

Topic themes include Governance, Legal & Ethical, Professionalism, Mobile Apps, Social Media, Work/Life Balance & technology, Patient Centred Care/Self Management, and Making it easy for the patient. The best paper will be awarded the prestigious Moya Conrick Prize.

Big Data 2013; HIC 2013 Submission Deadline Extended (Australia)

With the primary theme of “Big Data: addressing the challenges of the data deluge in health”, Big Data 2013 will focus on research, industry, government and clinical practice, introducing clinicians, healthcare executives and managers both clinical and non-clinical, data and information professionals, health and bio informaticians, health policy makers, and academics to the exploding world of Big Data. Big Data 2013 has two categories of submission: 1. Scientific Abstracts; 2. Industry/Clinical Case Study Abstracts.  The event will be held on 18-19 April in Melbourne, Australia.

The CHSSR wishes to appoint a highly motivated and experienced researcher to work on a number of applied health economic evaluation studies, using a variety of methodological approaches, focused on the impact of health information technologies on health care delivery, outcomes and safety. The successful applicant will spend 50% of their time working on a large four year Australian Research Council Linkage project to examine the impact of an integrated service model for aged and community care. The remainder will be spent developing a new research stream within the Centre focused on the health economics of health information technologies.

HIC 2013 Call for Papers – Deadline 18 February, 2013

HIC will be bringing together a range of international and national experts and leaders to share, inspire and evolve our e-health and health informatics community. We look forward to you being part of the official proceedings and sharing your work, ideas and innovations to contribute to this evolution.  All submissions will be double-blind peer reviewed to ensure that only the best content ends up on the HIC program.

Scientific Papers (full papers, 4-6 pages, 2000-3000 words) – Scientific submissions require a full written paper using the guidelines and templates provided below. Selected submissions will be published as a monograph in the prestigious IOS Press series on ‘Studies in Health Technology and Informatics’ and all abstracts will appear in the HIC 2013 Proceedings.

Health Informatics  Specialty Areas include: Nursing Informatics, Aged Care Informatics, Indigenous Informatics, Personalised medicine, Consumer health informatics, Research health informatics. Authors are encouraged to submit under the following topics and health informatics areas: Patient journeys / patient centred care;New technologies / social media / mobile devices; Digital health service delivery; Self-management; HIT Innovation; Remote and/or resource poor; National e-health policies.
